Miss Kiet’s Children (De kinderen van juf Kiet)
2016 | U | 95 mins | Documentary
Imagine not understanding anything the teacher is saying on your first day of school. This is the experience of most refugee children in their special introductory class at one Dutch elementary school. Fortunately, their teacher is Miss Kiet – strict but fair, patient, kind and concerned. She not only teaches the children to read and write, but also how to solve problems together and to respect each other. This touching observational documentary, without interviews or narrators, shadows her class for a year. The result is moving, often funny and sometimes sad, but most of all hopeful. An ode to the teacher that every child deserves.
