The King’s Choice

On the 9th of April 1940, German troops invade Oslo. The king of Norway is faced with a choice which will change his nation forever. Based on real events, the film showcases what it takes to turn a a brave man into the people’s king.
In June 1905, the parliament decides that Norway should withdraw from the union with Sweden. That same year, the people choose for Norway to become a kingdom. The Danish prince, Carl, is to become King of Norway. Political power lies with the government and parliament; the King plays only a representative role. In November 1905, the young prince rises in Norway as King Haakon VII of Norway, his English wife Queen Maud at his side. In his arms he bears their only child, Crown Prince Olav.
